Summary 
Berardo talks about The Use of Authentic Materials in The Teaching of Reading and brings some of his own experiences about reading authentic materials. He believes that reading has its purpose. He believes the most useful authentic material is the Internet because it is a modern day reality and up to date. It also can be able to be read freely every time and everywhere if there is an internet connection. Authentic materials also can help people to communicate with the real language outside the classroom.
By choosing their own reading material [from internet], people can be motivated and bring them into depth curious in reading. What to be considered the most in choosing these authentic materials from internet is that they have to be ‘safe’ to read or suitable with their ages so that they will be highly motivated in reading. In this article, Berardo believes that reading authentic materials by choosing by their own will give them awareness of their language level and their understanding. 

Application 
In teaching activity, it will be useful and interest the students when the teacher talks about him/herself. It can also bring a casual or relax atmosphere into the classroom.

Summary
This article talks about using authentic materials for extensive reading to promote English proficiency. In this research, Guo was going to know whether doing extensive reading of materials have an effect on vocabulary gain, on improvement of grammar, and on other language skills or not. This research done by a language proficiency test and an attitude survey. The result of the language proficiency test is that the use of authentic materials for extensive reading has positive effects on students language acquisition, on vocabulary and other skills. It also has significant improvement of vocabulary acquisition, but not grammar. In addition, it improve students’ knowledge, material for communication, and other language skills. The students are also become more involved in class discussion although there are some which are still lack of motivation to ask questions. The attitudinal survey describes the use of authentic materials for extensive reading brings positive effects. The result is that students felt that authentic reading were relevant to their lives, increase their understanding, improve their vocabulary, give them more materials to be discuss, increase their knowledge, and motivate them to continue for further reading. 

Application 
Students are usually more motivated when they are faced to the new materials. In this case, authentic materials can bring them to life that can bring some interests and motivation to them.

This article talks about The Effect of Using Authentic Materials on the tenth grade students’ reading comprehension achievement. This research was done by using quasi-experimental with non equivalent pretest and post-test design. The result of this research is that the use of authentic materials has significant effect to the students’ reading comprehension achievement. It can be concluded that teaching English using authentic materials may improve the students’ reading comprehension and their knowledge since authentic materials may express the real world situation.

Application 
Authentic materials represent the real world language used so that it is important for the students.

Summary 
In this article, Apsari did some literature reviews and an experimental research to find out whether the use of authentic material can improve students' reading comprehension or not. The literature reviews' result is that teaching students with authentic materials may improve their motivation by selecting relevant and interesting materials. Authentic materials may be more interesting because it reflects the real world contexts.
The experimental research were done in STKIP Siliwangi Bandung from English department in year 2010/2011. The result of the experimental research is that the effect of using authentic materials was small and not significant. It means that the students reading comprehension depends on the other factors like their self-conditions or the class conditions. However, teaching students using authentic materials is still recommended to change a thing in the class.

Application 
Teaching with authentic materials is useful; however, the teaching and learning activity also affected by the students' motivation which is affecting the whole classroom's atmosphere.
